Legends and myth's have been used for centuries to frighten people, where exactly do these stories derive from? At some point were these legends true? Ah, yes, the legend of Bloody Mary has been passed down for decades terrifying children at sleepovers or giving teenagers a good thrill.
Although there has been many variations of this legend, the most common tale dates back to the 16th century when, Queen Mary of England had ruled the thrown. She was noted to be a wicked woman and would put to death anyone who questioned her authority. Once the Queen had changed the religion of England from Protestant to Roman Catholic, the people of England rose in an uproar. Queen Mary mass murdered hundreds of Protestant leader's, thus giving her the name, "Bloody Mary," and rightfully so.
Now, the myth is, if you go into a very dark room and stand infront of a mirror and chant, "Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary," the evil queen will appear and scratch out your eyes.
There have been many supposed sightings of this horrific woman, people swear that they have seen this exact image, and really, who are we to judge if they haven't? The thought of seeing a bloodied woman staring at me through a mirror gives me more then enough reason not to summon the dead queen.
However, if you are brave enough during the next power outage, give this urban myth a shot. Are you brave enough to risk your own eyes to de-bunk legend?
